3 Community Service Overview Who is required to perform community service? Students awarded scholarships from the Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi and ʻImi Naʻauao programs are required to complete community service hours as a part of the Terms and Conditions of their award. Failure to meet this requirement may result in a delay in award disbursement. How much community service is required? For the academic year, Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi scholarship recipients must complete 50 hours of community service. These hours must be submitted by July 17, ʻImi Naʻauao scholarship recipients must complete 100 hours of community service. These hours must be submitted by July 11, Note: Spring 2017 award disbursement is contingent on submission of 50 community service hours. Community service must be submitted via the Community Service Portal (CSP). Students must submit their activities by the deadline dates above, and are encouraged to submit activities as soon as it is completed! Why community service? The purpose of the requirement is to incorporate the values of servant leadership exemplified by our founder, Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop. 3

4 Community Service Guidelines 1. Recipients must perform their required hours of community service from July 1 st through June 30 th of the award year. 2. Recipients are responsible for submitting community service information by the deadline. 3. Community service may be performed with multiple organizations. 4. Community service must meet the following criteria: Be performed with a non-profit organization Be unpaid Does not benefit a KS student, staff, or programs. Does not benefit political campaigns, programs, or parties. Required internship and practicum hours will not be accepted. However, hours in excess of your internship and practicum may be reported as community service as long as the activities meet all other guideline criteria. Note: Students are encouraged to perform service within their own community for an organization that benefits a Native Hawaiian, indigenous, or under-served population. 4

5 Tips for Success! Community Service Confirm that the organization is a non-profit prior to volunteering! Obtain your supervisor s name and contact information ( and phone) when you complete your activities. CSP Use Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome to access the CSP. Note: Safari and Internet Explorer do not support all CSP features. Bookmark the CSP website! Have your activity information and details readily available when you access the CSP. Review your activity report prior to submitting. Click the SUBMIT button to send your community service activity for review. 5

6 How to Access the Community Service Portal (CSP) Visit: First Time Users must complete the Registration process. Returning Users can use their address and password to access the CSP. 6

7 1 st Time Users ONLY! Register For an Account Students must register for CSP access annually. Once you ve completed the Registration process, you can login to the CSP at any time! First Time Users, click here. 7

8 Registration Step 1 First time users must input the following information: 1. Date of Birth 2. Legal Last Name 3. Legal First Name Note: Some names may exceed the maximum character limit. If you are having issues registering, please contact KS Financial Aid and Scholarship Services directly for kōkua. 4. Scholarship Program Name: Nā Hoʻokama A Pauahi or ʻImi Naʻauao 5. The most recent address you provided to KS Financial Aid and Scholarship Services 8

10 Your Password Requirements Your Password must contain the following: characters A. Alphabetic characters B. Numeric characters C. Punctuation 2. At least 1 (one) non-alphanumeric character (!@#$%) 3. Do not use < or > 10

11 Select Your Security Information 1. Select a Security Question from the dropdown menu. 2. Type in your answer in the Security Answer text box. 11

12 Registration Step 3 Once you have submitted the registration information you will receive a message to check your to finalize the process. Student@ksbe.edu 12

13 Registration Step 3 1. Select the link in the Confirmation to finalize your registration. 2. When complete you will receive the final confirmation message. 13

14 Login to the CSP Recipients can use the link: to log in to the CSP at any time. 14

15 Certification and Authorization After successful login, you will be prompted to complete the Certification and Authorization acknowledgement. You must select YES to access the CSP. 15

16 CSP Main Menu Upon successful login, the Main Menu will appear. The Main Menu dashboard lists: Program Student name and birthdate. Sample, Student 16

17 Contact Information Students can access the Contact Info tab to update their contact information. Note: Submitting your updated contact information in the CSP notifies our office of your change. This feature does not update our systems. For best results, please contact KS Applicant Services Center to confirm or process your contact information changes. Mahalo! 17

18 Submit Community Service First-time Submissions: In the CSP Main Menu, select the Add New CSR option. Sample, Student 18

19 1 st Time Submission Only! Select Term For 1 st time submissions, the term selection menu will prompt you to confirm the correct Academic year by selecting the date range indicated for the year. 19

20 Create or Edit Community Service Activity Select the +Add Hours icon to begin entering your community service information. Requirements are also listed at the top of the page for your reference. 20

22 Data Entry Details All text fields marked with a red asterisk (*) are required. * Organization Name 1. Type in the Name of the Organization where community service activities were done * Organization Type 2. Use the dropdown menu to select the Organization Type For-Profit Non-Profit Other * Activity Date 3. Use the dropdown menu to select the date of the community service activities. * Hours M = Month D = Date Y = Year 4. Report the number of community service hours performed 12-hours maximum per day Hours must be in increments of: 1. Whole hours (0.00) 2. Half hours (30 minutes = 0.50) 3. Quarter hours (15 minutes = 0.25 or 45 minutes = 0.75) 22

25 Editing Activities Activities can remain saved and unsubmitted in the CSP until the Submit button is selected. While activities are un-submitted they can be edited or deleted from the CSP by selecting the EDIT or DELETE button at the far right of the screen. - Edit Saved activities - Delete Saved activities 25

26 Submitting Activities Important! You must click SUBMIT to ensure the report is sent to KS Financial Aid and Scholarship Services. Activities that read Unsubmitted Requirements or Saved will not count towards your community service requirement. We encourage students to submit your activities immediately after you complete your community service. 26

27 Submitting Activities Once SUBMIT has been selected, the following prompt will appear in the CSP. Read instructions carefully and select the appropriate option to submit your community service activities. A prompt confirming success submission will appear. 27
